Scottish Historical Review Early Career Researcher Article Prize

The SHR is launching an annual article competition open to early career researchers working on Scottish history. The prize will be awarded for the best essay submitted on a subject related to the field of Scottish historical studies, in any period. The winning entry will be published in the journal and receive a £500 award.

The essay must be an unpublished work of original research, not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and no longer than 12,000 words (including footnotes). Submissions should conform to the SHR's guidelines for authors, available at: https://www.euppublishing.com/page/shr/submissions.

Entries should be sent to Dr Chris Langley (christopher.langley@open.ac.uk) and Prof. Annie Tindley (Annie.Tindley@newcastle.ac.uk) and be accompanied by a cover note confirming eligibility.

Postgraduate, Early Career and independent researcher Bursary

An annual fund of £1000 designed to support research by postgraduate and early career researchers who have do not yet hold a permanent, full-time academic post. Application deadline: 31 March 2025. Mid-Career and Retired Scholars

An annual award of up to £3000 for a mid-career or retired scholar pursuing original research. This funding is intended to support particularly those who are or have been prevented by routine duties from completing a planned programme research. Application deadline: 31 March 2025. Conference and Workshop Funding Scheme
