Scottish Historical Review: Pre-1707 Editor

The Scottish Historical Review seeks an editor for pre-1707 material. The term of office is 5 years and comes with an honorarium of £1,500 per annum. Working closely with an experienced team of SHR editors, the SHR Trustees, and Edinburgh University Press, you will be responsible for receiving and managing all submissions to the journal covering the period from the earliest times to 1707. You will have knowledge and expertise in any area of the pre-1707 history of Scotland and its peoples, and/or Scotland in its comparative and transnational contexts. Previous editorial experience is desirable but not essential.

Applications are invited from individuals with a track record of scholarly publications or other professional outputs appropriate to their career stage. We particularly welcome applications from women, people from minority ethnic communities, and those with other protected characteristics who are under-represented on the editorial team and the Trust. We also welcome applications from candidates who have had recent career breaks or exhibit non-linear career paths. (Applicants can write to or request a conversation in confidence with the Convener of the Trust.)

The Scottish Historical Review is the leading research journal in the field. The successful applicant joins the editorial team at an exciting time, as the editors and the Trust continue to develop initiatives aimed at promoting greater diversity and equality, while advocating for the value of the humanities in a changing world. You can read more about the Trust’s initiatives here.
